THE SILLAR ROUTE

We will begin our journey with a drive towards Cantera Añashuayco where our guide will explain about the extraction process of the sillar which was used to build Arequipa main square surroundings.  We will also see how the locals work with the sillar to create pieces used in the construction of buildings as well as many other uses, thanks to their skills inherited from their ancestors.  Afterwards, we will visit Culebrillas stream, where there is a quarry that is not yet in operation but at this place we can walk for 20 minutes through a small canyon formed by water erosion.  At the end of the route, we will admire and photograph some petroglyphs while we listen our guide explanations. Then, we will return to Arequipa city.
Note:  it is advisable to use casual clothes, comfortable sneakers and sun glasses for trekking.
